CORE Hampton Roads

CORE is a Naval Services FamilyLine Program. Naval Services FamilyLine is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to serving naval spouses across the country and the world. Our network of experienced, trained volunteer spouses allows us to mentor, consult, and guide families in the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. FamilyLine stands out from other organizations because it was founded by spouses for spouses. Our objective is to create a network of informed Navy families that can strengthen one another and provide a solid, united homefront. COMPASS is one of several programs that help make this possible.

The collaborative work between Naval Services FamilyLine’s CORE Hampton Roads and Navy League of Hampton Roads prevailed once again! These two powerhouse organizations have worked together for the past 11 years to plan and coordinate the annual CPO Selectee Spouse Conference event. This year CORE and Navy League Hampton Roads, in partnership with US Fleet Forces Command and Navy League of the United States held the first virtual, 12th annual CPO Selectee Spouse Conference on January 9, 2021 with overwhelming success.

Planning for this important conference began in July 2020, knowing that COVID 19 restrictions would make this conference a bit more challenging to organize.  The planning committee did not let that stop them from brainstorming, devising a plan and moving forward with the conference.

With the first time inclusion of Navy League of the United States and the use of their GoToWebinar platform, the conference was able to go virtual which allowed, for the first time ever,  global participation.

National Executive Director, Mike Stevens, moderated the conference. CNO and Mrs. Gilday kicked off the event with a recorded message, welcoming the attendees to the Mess.  The scheduled modules were the following:

•         Spouse Pride and Professionalism, developed and facilitated by Retired Fleet Master Chief Suz Whitman

•         The Year of the Unknown, developed and facilitated by Mrs. Jacey Eckhart,

•         Parading of the Uniform video

•         Moving and Logistics, developed and facilitated by Command Master Chief Toby Ruiz

•         Senior Enlisted Sustainment, developed and facilitated by Chief Heather Hagan

•         Guest Speaker, Mrs. Kim O’Rawe,

•         Live Panel Question and Answer with Fleet Master Chief Rick O’Rawe, Mrs. Kim O’Rawe, and CMC Alicia Kirkland

The conference was a huge success with the global participation from 385 attendees, from all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and internationally, Japan, Singapore, and Italy.

The feedback from our attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with a satisfaction rating of 8.8 out 10. This conference would not be possible without the continued support of Navy League Hampton Roads and their willingness to continue to provide top-notch programs for Navy Spouses.
